REVIEW OF THE COLDEST CITY

Focus Features has staked out Aug. 11, 2017, for David Leitch’s The Movie Coldest starring Charlize Theron as Lorraine Broughton, a top-level MI6 spy who heads to Berlin on the eve of the Wall’s collapse to take down an espionage ring that just killed an undercover agent. Lorraine is ordered to cooperate with Berlin station chief David Percival (James McAvoy), and the two form an uneasy alliance, unleashing their full arsenal of skills in pursuing a threat that jeopardizes the West’s entire intelligence operation.

Focus Features acquired The Coldest City out of last year’s Cannes Film Festival from Sierra/Affinity. The Coldest City will square off as a wide release during the second weekend in August against Warner Bros. Chips movie (which actually just started testing before audiences) and Sony Animation’s The Emoji Movie.

Kurt Johnstad wrote the script which is based on the graphic novel by Antony Johnston and illustrator Sam Hart. Focus acquired The Movie Coldest out of the Cannes Film Festival last year from Sierra/Affinity.  John Goodman, Sofia Boutella, Til Schweiger, James Faulkner, Eddie Marsan, Roland Møller, Bill Skarsgard, Barbara Sukowa, Johannes Johannesson and Toby Jones also star.

Focus Features said tonight that it has moved the release of David Leitch’s The Coldest City starring Charlize Theron to July 28, two weeks earlier than originally slated. The spy thriller now will bow against Sony’s Stephen King adaptation The Dark Tower and Disney’s untitled live-action fairy tale film.
